MDS Monday #30 -- Labor Day

Good morning, and welcome to UDI’s MDS Monday Challenge #30 – Labor Day. I created another page that I’ll use for my 2012 Calendar. I chose pictures of my niece and nephew swimming. (Work with me, it’s what people do on Labor Day weekend.) Anyway, I wanted a fun summery page for my calendar, and this worked.

I used bright colors like Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo, Real Red, and Pacific Point. Once I had my paper layers and pictures down, I added the Extreme Elements “splat” stamp to mimic splashing water. Then I struggled with my title. I knew I wanted to use Flag Punches for “Summer Fun”, but I couldn’t figure out how to complete the Scallop Circle element. I finally settled on the dotted circle stamp from Enjoy Every Moment, the Tall Heart Punch, and a Ribbon Knot. It pulled all my colors into the Title, and I’m happy with it.

Now it’s time to check out the other inspiring creations from the Design Team members at Utah Diva’s International.

MDS Monday #15 -- Fit For A Queen

Good morning, and welcome to UDI’s MDS Monday Challenge #15 – Fit for a Queen. I’ve told you before that challenges are a great way to get inspiration or even a new way to look at your project. That was true for me when I started working on this challenge. I had planned to create a page using pictures of my niece.

As I looked for appropriate pictures, I came across these pictures of my Sheltie, Roxie. Now, she’s a Queen! I have a German Shepherd and so do my parents. In fact, Roxie’s been around 5 different German Shepherds in her lifetime. And she has commanded them all, along with humans in the family.

I chose pictures that show her unique expressions and how she treats the larger dogs she’s around. And the page came together. It’s a basic page where the pictures and journaling tell the complete story of my Queen. Now it’s time to check out all the inspiring creations from the Design Team members at Utah Diva’s International.

2009 New Orleans 5 and 6

Good morning! I’ve been showing you my 2009 New Orleans scrapbook pages this week. In case you’re wondering what happened to pages 3 and 4, those were the Swamp Tour pages I showed on Monday. Today’s pages are uniquely me. They explain why this trip was special to me. (I’m a huge Harry Connick Jr. fan, enough said!) And they’re just my fun take on the trip and city.

Again, I mostly used the Night And Day DSP. It’s the perfect black and white compliment to the architecture. And to get the most out of this DSP, I filled square punches with the DSP. Some punches are the full size of the 12x12 page. I love that scrollwork pattern in the black paper, and I wanted it in specific places on my pages. If I just used it as background paper, I can’t change it around – the top is the top and that’s it. But when I fill a punch with the paper, I can flip it in any direction I want. And when I wanted more scrollwork than a single piece had, I just added a smaller square punch and filled it with the exact portion of the paper I wanted. That’s how I got the scrollwork on adjacent corners. (It’s only on opposite corners in it’s original form.)

Come back tomorrow for my unique St. Patrick’s Day punch art page from this trip.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for stopping by!

2009 New Orleans 1 and 2

Good morning! Yesterday, I showed you a couple of pages from my 2009 New Orleans trip. Today, I’m showing the beginning 2 pages from that trip. New Orleans has such a vintage feel that I thought the Night And Day DSP was a great compliment to my pictures. I love how the colors and textures pair with New Orleans architecture. And it even coordinates with the Extreme Elements Fleur-de-lis.

Other than the Fleur-de-lis, I didn’t really use stamps on any of these scrapbook pages. I used a couple of tricks to get my pattern from the DSP. Come back tomorrow, and I’ll explain more.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for stopping by!

More Kennedy Space Center MDS

Good morning! Yesterday, I showed you 2 of the MDS pages from my trip to Kennedy Space Center. Here are the other 2 pages. We walked around the Rocket Garden where the early rockets are displayed. Then we did the bus tour that takes you to the LC Gantry Observation and the Apollo/Saturn V Center.

I wish we could have spent more time there, but this was really just planned as a way to kill time before our late flight home that afternoon. I really enjoyed KSC more than I thought I would. And I highly recommend it for anyone.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for stopping by!
